An Sanctoir, Ballydehob, West-Work:

The Centre and Surrounding Landscape

The Centre is a beautiful, light-filled octagonal building which was designed by local architect, Tony Cohu. Situated in the middle of our 30 acre holding, each window of the eight-sided form offers a different view of the surrounding landscape. When darkness falls, the triangular skylights provide a vista on the night sky. The ash floor, with its richness of wood and underfloor heating, invites you to sit comfortably on the earth. The octagonal hall, reception area and utility wing are all wheelchair accessible.

The Center viewed from the lake

The landscape here is diverse and inviting, with rocky, gorse-covered outcroppings giving way to open meadows which are themselves bordered by woods, the Bawnaknockane river and a fast stream that used to serve a corn mill. As you wander, you are likely to come across altars, groves and unusual works of art created by people who have gone before and been inspired into this deep relating with the land. Walking on the land here, you cannot help but be touched by its peaceful and tranquil nature, a testament to the care and respect with which it is stewarded.
